Trent's 4th year was billed to be one of the most grueling with the demands of general surgery. There definitely have been some long days and nights and we are glad the time is almost over. However, we found a special nugget in his post-call days where he would come home, sleep for a few hours, and then we got our daddy all to ourselves. The kids have grown quite fond of these days; we know they will be missed as he returns to oral surgery next month.
Sometimes, when Trent has had to work on Sundays, we have taken him dinner and found a little picnic bench near the hospital where we have enjoyed our brief visits. Trent wanted to show the kids around this time, so we got the full tour. He tried to be low-key about taking his family around the hospital, but somehow attracted the attention of President Eli Caputo--the president of UK. Apparently President Caputo is a dentist with a varied career. He saw us trying to take a discreet photo of Trent and the kids by this wall of photos and offered to get all of us in a shot. Then he sat and talked to us for a few minutes. He was very kind and encouraging--even understanding of the demands our family experienced these past few years.
Trent says this wall is one of his favorites in the whole hospital because it represents the life and culture of the people among whom we live and work.
Trent even took the kids up to the helipad to show them where the helicopters land.

We are grateful for such a hard working Dad and grateful for the tender mercies we've seen during this busy year.
