Chicken Farmers: An Update

The chicken project has been ongoing for a year and we LOVE being chicken farmers. It has been a rewarding family project and they are fun pets.

They really are so tame and friendly. They follow us around the yard like a "flock" of dogs.

We parked the coop in the garden for winter and put it back on wheels to move it out into the yard again. The boys took the chance to pretend to live in there.

The hens have been wonderful layers and we get between 6-8 eggs/day. This allows for us to have plenty of eggs and the kids sell to two regular customers each week. They have enjoyed having a source of income. Their hard work is paying off!

Sometimes we get fun, irregular eggs. Ranging from extra small- double yolker. The brown one below was a double yolker!

If these pictures don't just scream "redneck" I don't know what does! I love my little diaper-wearing, pink booted farmer.

Sometimes the faces get pretty funny for the camera. :)

I love, love, LOVE those pictures of Matthew. Made me laugh out loud. He's going to really appreciate those in the future--say ten or fifteen years down the road. haha
