Utah Trip- May

Trent had a week of vacation time scheduled for the end of May and so we planned a family trip to Utah to see the grandmas, grandpas, and cousins. We were excited to take Matthew to introduce him to many of the family who hadn't met him yet! We had a flight out of Lexington early in the morning and our neighbor, Jehoshaphat, was nice to volunteer to take us there in our van. Trent had strategically packed the car so that the suitcases, carseats, and double stroller would fit. He forgot only one thing- a seat for Mr. J. He was a good sport and hopped right in the back--joking that he hoped no one would check for this Puerto Rican's green card. Good thing we are only a few minutes from the airport. We all got a good chuckle over it.

The kids were really excited to fly, especially since Daddy could go along this time. Daddy makes everything more fun and was even able to get these pictures of our little pilots-

Matthew was 3 months old at the time of travel and this was his first big journey. I was very grateful Trent was along to keep this crew entertained while I nursed a lot on the flight. They had a great time!

And thankfully, Matthew was a dream on the flight and slept or nursed most of the way.

As usual, we had a happy reunion with family members upon our arrival! We planned on spending a lot of time with Trent's parents since it had been awhile since Trent had been there. Unfortunately, Trent's grandmother passed away that week and his parents headed to Arizona while we were there. While it was sad not to be able to see them it ended up being a blessing it happened while we were on that side of the country so we could be near the funeral. (More details on that to come.)

One of the kids favorite things to do when we stay at my parent's house is to eat breakfast with them. Each morning they prepare a delicious egg, bacon, and toast breakfast and the kids love it. And so do the adults for that matter!

My sister Amy had just moved into her newly renovated home in South Jordan so they invited us for a pool party one day.

So happy to be with my sisters! Just missing our Ben!

A few odd jobs were done... I believe Trent installed this fan for them about 5 years ago and he just gave it a tune up.

Heidi and Nathan spent a lot of time playing in the little playhouse in the backyard. Can you imagine their delight when I brought a real baby out to try out the babydoll cradle?!

For weeks Nathan wanted to have  "UK" party (UK is for University of Kentucky, where Trent goes to school). He planned it and was excited to include family in Utah. We realized time was running short and we hadn't had time to satisfy this yearning for a four-year-old, so Grandpa, Trent, and Nathan enjoyed a little lunch trip down to the hangar to work on the airplane. The only real requirement was the bag of Cheetos, which he eagerly consumed.

Our little aspiring pilot!

Grandma Ray's funeral ended up being scheduled in Mesa, AZ for the Saturday we were scheduled to fly back to Kentucky. We knew one thing, we REALLY wanted to be there to gather with family and honor her wonderful life. After hours on the phone with Delta, we were able to change our tickets (while not paying an arm and a leg) so that we would be able to depart out of Phoenix a day later. Matthew and I ended up flying from Provo to Mesa and Trent and the big kids drove with Shayla to Arizona. We were so grateful it worked out. It was hard to say goodbye to our Utah family after such a short, whirlwind trip but had such a fun time while it lasted!
