Rewind: State Fair

Back in November we had the chance to venture out to the AZ State Fair with our friends the Simonson's. We planned and looked forward to it for weeks! Heidi was so excited to see what a real fair was all about. We opted to go in the morning to beat the crowds and the heat. Well, we definitely beat the crowds. We had the place to ourselves for about 2 hours. Probably because the rides didn't open until noon! Waiting to ride the carsousel was a major exercise in patience for Heidi. As for beating the heat, we did not do that. We hoped that the first week of November would be nice, but it was a record breaking heat day! We found ourselves traipsing over the black top for hours with temps in the high nineties.
As you can see above, when the rides finally opened we fully enjoyed them.
We were so excited to find out there was a ferris wheel with enclosed boxes that all of us could ride in:

The kids are being told to look at the camera in this picture but as you can see, it's hard to take your eyes off the window when you are towering over the state fair!

In the cow barn enjoying looking at the livestock but clearly feeling a little exhausted and worn out by this point! Nathan was a real trooper to stay in the stroller most of the day.

Due to the soaring temps and special-ness of the day we splurged on these ice cream cones and as you can see they were enjoyed by all!
At the end of the day, we ended up back at the car with tired, dusty, sweaty, and sleepy kids (and moms) with some good memories of the day at the fair. Phew. And the moms felt a sense of accomplishment of navigating the ups and downs of the state fair with 4 children 3 and under in tow!
