Getting the shower surround done was one of the last major things on our list in finishing the bathroom. Trent had never done it before so spent some time collecting advice and learning the in's and out's. And then jumped in with both feet.
The Sister missionaries were teaching an investigator (who was baptized right after Thanksgiving) at this same time. James was very generous with his time and helped Trent with this tiling project. It was fun to get to know him and to have the extra help.
Trent is super at involving the kids in the projects he does whenever he can. Each of them did a few tiles and can point out exactly in the shower where they are.
We have not had overhead lighting in our main living room up until this point. Trent, Nathan, and Matthew took care of that! This was officially Matthew's first work project. First of many :)
My boys are happy when there are tools around!
Nathan and Trent had to go up to the attic to complete the wiring for the fan. Nathan LOVES going up in the attic. When he knew it was nearly time he ran and got on his worker vest, put on the safety goggles and lined his and Trent's shoes neatly against the wall by the attic stairs. He was worried Trent would go up into the attic without him and literally ran through the house gathering his worker utilities panting and reminding Trent to not go without him. His willingness and excitement to work never tires! And Trent comments how Nathan's help is actually helpful.
The end results of these projects were wonderful! A working shower, and light in our living space. It looks so different in the light we almost couldn't recognize it!
The days before our Thanksgiving guests arrived we scurried around to finish up all the "little" projects such as trim around doors, quarter round on the floor, painting touch-ups. There was tile sealing and caulking our new bathroom. Trent changed out some light switches and redid some wiring so we could get rid of the old ivory color and replace it with white. He even installed a new entryway chandelier. It turns out it weighed 31 lbs in its shipping box and Trent had to install it on the most vaulted ceiling we have. He had to recruit the help of a neighbor and even between the two of them it took a couple of hours to get installed. (Let's hope that thing doesn't crash down on anyone!)
We breathed a huge sigh of relief when we looked around the house and realized it was ready for guests. Our projects around the house that started with our first sewer back up right after Christmas last year were finally done (except the laundry room, but you can close that door and hide it from guests, right?)! DONE. It was certainly a time to be thankful, and we were ready to celebrate that gratitude with family.
